Event: Heritage Walk, 11th September

For Heritage Open Days 2016, we are offering free guided canal history walks at Daisy Nook.  
Sunday 11th September at 11.00 am, repeated at 1.00 pm.
Starts from outside John Howarth Visitor Centre, Daisy Nook car park, off Newmarket Road / Stannybrook Road.

Find out about the history of the Droylsden to Hollinwood canal and see some of its remaining heritage features.
About 1.5 miles total distance at a leisurely pace. Toilets and café available at start and finish.
Accessibility: Mostly level towpath with a few gentle slopes. Some steps on return route, but these can be bypassed if needed.

Event: June Working Party

Sunday 2nd May 2015: Working Party, Daisy Nook
One-day working party, mainly comprising vegetation clearance.

Why not come along and join in and make a difference? Even if you have not been on a working party before, you will be made welcome! Big muscles are not essential as you can be given work to suit your capabilities!

Meet at Daisy Nook Car Park, Stannybrook Road, at 9.30 am. Strong footwear and waterproof clothing recommended. Bring own lunch and drinks. Alternatively, hot drinks and snacks are available at the café.

Event: Canal and Tram Walk

Date of event: Sunday 7th June 2015

Members and friends are invited to take a walk along the line of the canal - and return by tram!

The walk of around 6 miles will start at Fairfield Junction, Droylsden, and follow the route of the Hollinwood Branch Canal through Littlemoss and Daisy Nook to Hollinwood and then the line of the Werneth Canal to Washbrook. This includes following by road sections that have long been filled in.

Return to Droylsden will be by Metrolink tram, changing in Manchester. An off-peak Day ticket for the Metrolink can be bought from a machine on the platform for £5.00.

Concessionary passes are valid for travel on Metrolink, but only for pass holders who live in Greater Manchester.

Meet at Lock Keepers Court, Droylsden (opposite Tesco) at 10.30 am on Sunday 7th June. Room for car parking at Lock Keepers Court. Lunch at Daisy Nook where toilets, hot drinks and snacks are available. Stout footwear and waterproof clothing advised.

The walk will pass the location of the long-gone Bradley Bent Basin that featured in the recent Newsletter and follow the course of the four locks that were in Hollinwood.

Event: Fairbottom and Park Bridge Walk

Date of event: Sunday 6th April 2014
A walk has been arranged for members and friends on Sunday 6th April 2014. Thus will be a circular walk of around 5 to 6 miles including some hills.

Walkers will see where the coal staithe, featured in the newsletter, was situated and look at the other features of the Fairbottom Branch, then on to Fairbottom Bobs, Rocher Vale and Park Bridge, returning by an alternative scenic route.

Meet at 10.30 am outside the café at Daisy Nook car park, Stannybrook Road, off Newmarket Road. bringing a packed lunch and sturdy footwear.

Buses 168/169 and 231 stop at the junction of Newmarket Road and Stannybrook Road.

Postcode for SatNav: M35 9WJ but look for signs into the car park near the top of the hill. If you are driving via Ashton, be aware that the A627 Oldham Road will be closed in both directions at the railway bridge near IKEA, so allow a few minutes extra for the diversion.
