Heritage Walks 2020

Update (11th Aug): We regret to announce that this event has been cancelled.

The Covid-19 infection rates in Tameside and especially Oldham are much higher than elsewhere in the country. Most Heritage Open Day events in Oldham and Tameside are being cancelled. For an activity like a guided walk along towpaths it would not have been easy to follow social-distancing guidelines, especially when people would need to gather round to listen to the guide. We have left this decision until August to see whether the situation might improve sufficiently but we have judged that this does not seem likely.

Our apologies to those of you who may have been looking forward to this event. We very much hope that it can be offered again in September 2021.

This year's canal heritage walks are arranged for Friday 11th September and repeated on Saturday 19th September 2020.

Join us for a guided walk around the canal features at Daisy Nook as part of the Heritage Open Days scheme. Meet by the café, Daisy Nook car park, at 1.00 pm.

Winter Working Party

Our next work party will be on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th January - meet at Daisy Nook Country Park car park, near junction of Newmarket Road and Stannybrook Road, from 9.30 am for 10 am start.

Work is planned to be concentrated on the Fairbottom Branch, focusing on cutting back and removing trees and other vegetation. We hope to have at lease one tirfor in operation.

Please note that this is a wet site, so wellies are a must.
There will be other options for lighter (and drier) work for those less able.

Lunch can be provided as long as you let Mike know you're coming. (Mike 07974 395294)
